The Nangpa – La pass trekking about eight hundreds years ago people of the Tibetan Khampas started to migrate west from eastern Tibet. They settled on the Cho Oyu and on the north side of Everest (called Chomolongma in Tibetan). Some of them continued to the south and crossed the Nangpa La to reach Khumbu. Today they are called Sherpas. Even now Khampas from Tibet and Sherpas can understand each other. A legendary trade route that the Sherpa ancestors crossed several centuries ago before settling in the Everest region, the Nangpa La (5,716m) provided a lifeline between the Sherpa people of Nepal and their Tibetan counterparts. As fair measure of the trail lies in the Himalayan glaciers this trek offers challenging hiking in the high altitude providing opportunity to explore some of the least visited valleys, villages and seasonal pastures of the local Sherpas.
We visit the legendary village of Thame through the wild upper Bhote Koshi and along the historic trade route before finally culminating in the topping of Nangpa La pass with its seldom seen breathtaking views of the Himalaya including the Tibetan plateau before you. En route to the crest of the pass we may also encounter the occasional trickle of Tibetan traders as they make their way to Namche Bazaar. After discovering this hidden jewel of the Everest region, we complete a spectacular traverse over the awe-inspiring Renjo La pass to the alpine pastures and lakes of Gokyo with a spectacular 360-degree view of the innumerable peaks and glaciers as your constant companion. A special permit is required for this spectacular route owing to its proximity to the Tibetan border marked by Nangpa La and its ridgelines. This strenuous trek is designed for experienced hikers who wish to rough it and see the real side of the wild Himalaya and yet without the commitment to any technical climbing.

Price For The Trip: The total cost for the trek or tour you decide you want to do will depend on several different factors. The type of accommodation you prefer in Kathmandu will make a difference to the overall cost (budget to 5 star accommodations). The mode of transport you prefer will also affect the cost of your package, for example prices vary greatly between flying versus private car/van, tourist or local buses. The camping trek and teahouse trek made a difference in the cost. The number of guides and porters required will also affect the total cost of your trek. For these reasons, the same trek/tour can vary in price quite substantially.
